On the Kardinal Hengsbach square the cathedral of Essen reminds of the "Watchful cockerel" that warned the sleeping city-dwellers of Essen of an attack by robbers with its timely crowing as the legend says. In the background is the worship church "St. Johannes Baptist" which was built after the cathedral of Essen in 870.
